We have done many Soundsketches, with people young and old. The half-hour format offers an opportunity to those who want to mark a moment in time, or a special chapter of life. Here are a few audio samples from some of our favorite Soundsketches.

COTTAGE TRIBUTE: NODEN NISSEN TURNS 40
Many Canadians have a deep affection for their cottages. For more than 30 years, Barbara Gibson made her annual trek from Pittsburgh, PA to a small lake near Algonquin Park, Ontario. “Noden Nissen” was her summer home, a warm and welcoming cedar frame cottage, built on the tip of an island, accessible only by boat. She hopes it will always remind her grandchildren of what is truly important in life. [1:45]

Pippa Elliott
How much difference can a canoe trip make to a teenager’s life? As you will hear in this excerpt from a Soundsketch of a nineteen-year-old girl reflecting on the challenge three years earlier of paddling for 35 days across Northern Ontario, it’s something she will never forget. [2:45]

BRUCE HODGINS
Bruce Hodgins is a legend in the world of wilderness camping and canoeing. He has been associated with Camp Wanapitei in Temagami, Ontario since he was a boy. For many years, he served as camp director. Today, he still spends his entire summers there, watching generations of paddlers set off – and return from wonderful canoe trips. Bruce has taught so many young people about tripping and the beauty of the North, and aboriginal and environmental issues - and about life. He also loves to share a good laugh. We asked him if he’d sing one of his old canoe tripping songs. [0:38]
Bruce has paddled most of the major rivers of Canada and he embraces that life with deep affection. We asked him to describe what a perfect paddling experience might be now, as a man in his senior years. [0:44]

THE MINGAY GRANDCHILDREN
To complement a one hour Soundportrait of Arthur Mingay, we sat down with his 8 grand daughters, ranging in age from toddlers to twenty-somethings. They all wanted to tell Grandpa what they thought of him so we surprised him with a SoundSketch of the grandchildren. This excerpt is a sampling of their comments. [2:16]
